I am a senior environmental epidemiologist, with expertise in quantitative methods for assessing the health effects of complex environmental exposures, as well as qualitative and participatory research methods.
My current research focuses on early-life environmental determinants of child health and wellbeing. At NIPH, I am principal investigator for NON-PROTECTED, where we investigate the effect of perfluorinated toxicants ('forever chemicals') on the gut microbiome and immune response in children. I also coordinate the analyses of the effects of chemical exposure, particularly cardiometabolic health effects, in the European Partnership for Risk Assessment of Chemicals (PARC). I coordinate the Healthy Urban Enviornments task in the newly launched European JAPreventNCD where we will implement pilot projects and evaluations in ten European municipalities to promote healthy environments. I am also a member of the core group in the Centre for Sustainable Diets at NIPH.
I have experience in conducting follow-up of birth cohorts, developing questionnaires, harmonising and analysing large datasets from birth cohorts, including MoBa and the Norwegian Environmental Biobank, and collaborating in various European projects.
I have a BSc in Psychology from Goldsmiths’ University London (1997) and an MSc in Environmental Technology (2006) and PhD in Environmental and Reproductive Epidemiology (2011) from Imperial College London.
