The Norwegian SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance system aims to strengthen and support trend analysis and early detection of new waves of SARS-CoV-2.
Samples have been collected from wastewater treatment plants in the following areas: Tromsø, Trondheim, Bergen, Oslo and Ullensaker/Gardermoen airport, covering around 30% of the Norwegian population.
From 1 December 2022 the number of sampling sites have been reduced to include Trondheim, Bergen, Oslo and Ullensaker/Gardermoen airport, covering around 25% of the population.
From 1 April 2023 the number of sampling sites were further reduced to include Oslo and Ullensaker/Gardermoen airport, covering around 22% of the population.
