CO-CREATE is a large project which was funded by the European Unions’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme as part of the response to tackle the childhood obesity epidemic.

The CO-CREATE Final Conference, co-hosted with WHO Europe, brought together all project partners and stakeholders to celebrate the achievements and impact of this joint project.

Building on the existing NOURISHING (nutrition) and MOVING (physical activity) frameworks, two policy indexes have been developed that assess and compare national government policy action on nutrition and physical activity across Europe.

Our new policy indexes show the status of nutrition & physical activity policy in Europe and enable young people to advocate for better policies to tackle obesity.

A set of considerations has now been published on how to establish multi-actor Dialogue Forums.

Since its conception, the CO-CREATE research consortium has wanted to challenge reductionist attitudes to obesity interventions, and ask young people themselves what they think should be the priorities for action.

The Policy Evaluation Network (PEN) developed the ‘Physical Activity Environment Policy Index’ (PA-EPI), a monitoring framework to assess government actions for creating a healthy PA policy environment. The project is also supporting the professional growth of early career researchers, practitioners, and professionals through its early career network.

CO-CREATE colleagues at the World Cancer Research Fund International have been hard at work generating evidence and infrastructure to support local and national policy changes to make healthy choices the easiest, most appealing, and preferred choices for adolescents across Europe. The NOURISHING and MOVING databases highlight where governments need to take action to promote healthy diets and decrease physical inactivity. New datasets of diet-related policies and physical activity policies across Europe have been added to both databases. A recent publication in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health also provides insight into the development of the MOVING framework.
