All about the Norwegian Surveillance System for Communicable Diseases

The general objective of the project is to strengthen infectious disease surveillance systems at the national level, with improvement of integration, interoperability, and digitalization of data sources.

The effectiveness of the vaccine is evaluated through the national surveillance of the HPV vaccination programme. Since 2017, the incidence of HPV genotypes in cervical cancer and precursors to cervical cancer is monitored in MSIS.

A gradually implemented one-year evaluation has documented that the Norwegian Surveillance System for Communicable Diseases was robust enough to maintain its function during the COVID-19 epidemic.

In this project we surveyed MSIS users to map perceived barriers and facilitators of notifiable diseases reporting into MSIS before and during the COVID-19 epidemic.

By comparing indicators for March-September 2020, with the "normal" laboratory function before the covid-19 epidemic, we will assess how the epidemic may have affected the capacity of laboratories.

The project aims to provide estimates of RSV disease burden.
