Information for teachers

Here you will find information if you are a teacher at a school participating in the air purifier study.
If the school participates in part 1
The classroom participating in the study will have air purifiers and air quality sensors installed, and these will mostly be on throughout the entire 6-week study period. Air quality measurements will be taken continuously. The air purifiers turn themselves on and off using a timer. The other classrooms at the school will not be affected by the study.
We would like to ask the form teacher of the class participating in this part of the study for help with two aspects;
- Participate in some short interviews during the first and last week of the study period. We aim to collect insights about negative and positive experiences associated with the use of air purifiers in the classroom.
- Complete short questionnaires once a week for 6 weeks. We will ask about school, class, indoor climate, and air quality in the classroom, symptoms related to air quality, as well as absence and reasons for absence.
If the school participates in part 2
All three classrooms participating in the study will be equipped with both ceiling-mounted and portable air purifiers. During the 6-week study period, we will alternate weekly whether the ceiling-mounted air purifiers or the portable air purifiers are on, or if both are turned off, in the different classrooms. This is done automatically using timers. Air quality measurements will be taken continuously.
In this part of the study, we would like to ask the form teachers of the classes for help with the following;
- Participate in two short interviews with us during the first and last week of the study period. We aim to gather information about negative and positive experiences related to having air purifiers in the classroom.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of air purifiers?
Air purifiers can generate some noise, but we will in consultation with the teacher set the operation level so that noise can be minimized as much as possible. Incorrect placement can lead to draft, but this will also be considered when placing the air purifiers. It will be important for us to find out in this study whether anyone is nevertheless bothered by the air purifiers.
Voluntary Participation
Air purifiers and air quality sensors will be installed in the participating classrooms, but it is voluntary for teachers and students/parents to participate in interviews and surveys.
