UV disinfection unit approval is discontinued

Updated

The NIPH discontinues the voluntary approval of UV disinfection units. The list with approved products will not be updated.

The approval process will cease on 1 March 2023. Beyond that date, new applications will no longer be processed, and queries on existing approvals will not be answered.

Existing approvals are issued for specified models and will be valid as long as the product is available, providing it is not altered in a way that may violate the conditions of the approval. UV disinfection units without Norwegian approval should otherwise be able to confirm UV dosage based on internationally recognized biodosimetric test standards.

The NIPH recommends to not use approvals not based on biodosimetry.

The Norwegian drinking water regulation still applies to drinking water. Questions about this may be directed towards the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
