Reduce global NCD risk factors

The Non-communicable Disease agenda covers the risk factors tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, physical inactivity, unhealthy diets, and air pollution. Tackling these risk factors will save lives, and offers a lift for the economic development of countries.
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) collaborates with and builds national capacity in institutions with public health functions in Low and Middle Income Countries on measures, primarily pricing and accessibility regulations, that can prevent or limit tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol and consumption of unhealthy products, and related harms.
Regulation, taxation and multi-sectoral measures are important in order to prevent disease and premature death. Taxation of unhealthy products and progressive revenue collection mechanisms can increase fiscal space for health care to combat the Non-communicable Diseases epidemic.
Norway has a record of accomplishment in the field of regulation and taxation of tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy products.
