Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The ENABLE project recently hosted a comprehensive workshop from February 25-28, 2025, bringing together consortium members, experts and key stakeholders to discuss key issues and reach consensus regarding the implementation of health strategies in Ethiopia.
The workshop, held at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) Training Center, focused on several topics such as urban environment impacts, nutrition, air pollution, digital health, and physical activity.
The primary objectives of the workshop were to review findings from the formative studies and agree on implementation strategies for the ENABLE intervention. It was critical to understand current behaviors by the target groups before implementing new strategies. Effective behavior change requires tailored interventions that consider local contexts and needs.

The team worked in plenum and in small breakout groups to address the future implementation needs of ENABLE. Action items were identified to ensure the successful continuation of the project, such as milestones and deliverables, reviewing ANC workflows for behavior change opportunities, and discussing budgeting needs for successful implementation. Solutions focused on clear communication, training, and leveraging existing resources to enhance the project's impact.
“These partnerships play a crucial role in shaping evidence-based health interventions, strengthening our collective efforts to address non-communicable diseases in Ethiopia with meaningful and lasting impact.” – Hanna Yemane, CO-PI,ENABLE Project

The ENABLE implementation protocol workshop was a significant step forward in developing and implementing the ENABLE project in four cities across Ethiopia: Addis Ababa, Adama, Harar and Jimma. By bringing together ENABLE team members, experts and stakeholders, the workshop fostered collaboration and generated actionable strategies. The ENABLE team remains dedicated to addressing the identified challenges and is steadfast in its mission to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by decreasing the lifelong prevalence of major NCD risk factors among pregnant women in Ethiopia.
