What parents say about their involvement in their children's digital activities in everyday life: a mixed method review

Project

|

Updated

We will conduct a systematic review on parents' involvement in children's (0-18 years) digital everyday life outside of school.

Summary

"Digital parenting" is about how parents relate to their children's use of digital media. Supporting and strengthening parents in this role can also improve children's and young people's digital everyday life.

The Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs wants evidence to support the preparation of targeted information, guidance, and advice on digital parenting. Part of being able to give advice is better understanding parents' opinions, experiences, and needs. Therefore, we will conduct a systematic review on parents' involvement in children's (0-18years) digital everyday life outside of school.

We will follow methodological guides and involve a reference group to ensure high quality of the systematic review. We will conduct systematic searches for Scandinavian primary studies from 2015 to 2024 with qualitative and/or quantitative data on the following questions:

- What do parents say about their involvement in their children's digital everyday life?

- What do parents say about their boundary setting related to their children's digital activities?

- What do parents say about their concerns related to children's digital everyday life?

We will conduct a mixed-method systematic review. To comply with the project’s prerequisites with respectto timeframe and resources it may be necessary to prioritize Norwegian studies and/or simplify selected steps in the review process. In that case, we will describe in detail how the simplifications may affect the quality of the systematic review.
