Effect evaluation of The International Child Development Programme (ICDP)
Project
|Updated
The aim of this project is to conduct an evaluation of the effect of International Child Development Programme (ICDP) through a randomized controlled trial (RCT).
Summary
International Child Development Programme (ICDP) is a universal preventive programme offered to parents in groups. The focus is on parental resources and mastering in the role as parents. The main aim of the programme is to strengthen familial conditions for child developmental through supervision of parents. The groups are led by certified supervisors. Although the programme is widely disseminated and used in Norway and many other countries, a thorough effect evaluation is needed. The aim of this project is to conduct an evaluation of the effect of ICDP through a randomized controlled trial (RCT). We will investigate the effect of ICDP according to three outcomes: the direct effect on the parents, on the parent-child relation, and on the child. The study sample will consist of groups of parents in Norway signing up for an ICDP course offered to parents in general (the basic version of the programme). Assessments will be conducted by parental questionnaires before the start of the programme (T1) and at two time points after the course has been finalized (T2, T3). All participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group or a waiting list control group after T1. The control group will be offered ICDP after the data collection is finalized.
