To acquire health information is essential to make informed health decisions and is among other factors dependent on a person’s health literacy skills. Studies indicate that patient groups with immigrant or minority backgrounds do not have equal access to health care, even after adjusting for sociodemographic differences such as education and income. Limited access to tailored information and patient education is one possible factor explaining this inequity. The aim of this report is to conduct a review of systematic reviews evaluating effects of tailored information and patient education for patients with immigrant or minority background.
The Norwegian Centre for Migration and Minority Health (NAKMI) will use the report as evidence in a forthcoming guideline for health professionals.
